In a previous article, we discussed the various programs and options available for government-funded workplace training throughout Canada. Now that you know whether you’re eligible or not, let’s move on to the next step which is how to apply in each province. For most of these programs, the application process is fairly simple and straightforward so let’s get started.

Ontario

To apply to the Canada-Ontario Job Grant, applicants must register with Ontario’s TPON website to access the second round of application forms. TPON is used for the submission and registration of funding opportunities within Ontario. The link for registration can be found here.

To apply to this program you need to provide:

  1. Employer details:
    o Business name, address, number of employees, and year business registered
    o Canada Revenue Agency number
  2. Training information:
    o First-, second-, and third-choice training provider details
    o Canada Revenue Agency number of your first-choice training provider
    o Training costs
  3. Training provider documentation:
    o 48 months of experience or teaching a program OR
    o 24 months of experience with a Canadian bachelor’s degree (or equivalent foreign degree), a certificate of qualification from the Ontario Trade college, or status as a graduate of a college of applied arts

 

Alberta

With the Canada-Alberta Job Grant, you only need to submit one application for all trainees. You must also create a MyAlberta Digital ID account.

To apply to this program you need to provide:

  1. Employer details:
    o Trade name or partnership registration number.
    o NOP organizations must provide documentation to prove they are incorporated, established, or registered via their Canada Revenue Agency Charity Number or other documentation
  2. Training information:
    o Cost in Canadian dollars
    o Hours of training
    o Cost per trainee
  3. Trainee details:
    o Contact information
    o Employment status within the organization

 

British Columbia

Similar to other programs, you need to register with a BCeID on the Skills Training Grants webpage to start your application process.

To apply to this program you need to provide:

  1. Employer details:
    o Business information, license, and/or case number
  2. Training information:
    o Start and end dates
    o Training costs
    o Location
  3. Training provider(s):
    o Name and description
    o Delivery method of course instructions
  4. Participant details:
    o Contact information
    o Relationship to employer

 

Manitoba

The Canada Manitoba Job Grant provides an easy portal to submit applications online. Note that training costs must be paid in advance to file a reimbursement claim when once your application has been approved.

To apply to this program you need:

  1. Employer details:
    o Business license, registration or other identification number
    o Contact information
  2. Training information:
    o Third-party trainer information such as location and training program details
    o Cost of training program including invoice or paid receipt
  3. Trainee details:
    o Contact information
    o Status in Canada
    o Employment status within the organization

New Brunswick

The New Brunswick Labour Force Training application is simple and easy to follow. No additional registration for websites is needed here, but a detailed list of program information must be submitted.

To apply to this program you need to provide:

  1. Employer details:
    o Legal business or organization name
    o Canada Revenue Agency Number (if applicable dependent on your organization type)
    o Number of employees working year-round under this organization
  2. Training information:
    o Training provider
    o Location of training and training method
    o Costs and additional fees
  3. Trainee details:
    o Names and current job titles
    o Employment status within the organization

You will also need to provide a paragraph that demonstrates how this training is necessary for your employees/trainees to attend.

 

Prince Edward Island

For the Workplace Skills Training program in Prince Edward Island, the application form can easily be found and submitted online.

To apply to this program you need to provide:

  1. Employer details:
    o Legal business name
    o Provincial corporate registry number and HST or Business number
  2. Training information:
    o Type of training and skills that will be learned
    o Location of training and training institution name
    o Costs and requested contribution
  3. Trainee details:
    o Contact information
    o Employment status within the organization

Saskatchewan

The application form for the Re-Skill Saskatchewan Training Subsidy is available online through a stepby-step process. Since there is no dedicated application platform portal, a Career Training staff member will contact you for further details two days after the application has been submitted.

To apply to this program you need to provide:

  1. Employer details:
    o Legal business name and authorized representative of the business
    o A Corporate Registry Number
    o A completed Direct Deposit Payment Request Form
  2. Training information:
    o Confirmed start and end dates of training
    o Outline and cost information for training
  3. Trainee details:
    o Contact information
    o Two most recent paystubs or statement of earnings to prove employment with your business

Quebec

Quebec’s Manpower Training measure asks applicants to apply through their local employment centre (CLE) directly. An assistance officer will then be in touch to assess your needs and situation and help you determine whether this training program is right for you.

Territories

In Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and Yukon, training grant program applications must be submitted by contacting your local employment centre in your respective territory.
